CCSL project: CGIAR and CCAFS Stocktaking Exercise

Julian Gonsalves

Duration: September 01 – 1 March 2013

Terms of Reference:

  • Identify ‘CCSL’ people and initiatives across the CGIAR to help identify exciting approaches at the local levelthat already exist and to help catalyze and connect the currently-scattered community and pockets of innovation.
    • this is likely to include, to some extent, activities that are related, e.g. participatory research approaches (PAR, RRA, PLA,…), community-based adaptation,…
    • focus on the research community, but will go beyond to highlight partner (current CCAFS partners or potential future partners) activities with a specific learning, knowledge and communication focus, and particular focus on participation and engagement at the local level
    • This exercise should be presented with a short narrative for each activity and a table comparing these different experiences according to an agreed list of criteria.

  • Do an initial characterization of these initiatives to guide understanding, show gaps and opportunities, and shape further analysis and interventions.
  • Help identify key individuals to participate in a stocktaking workshop to be held in Addis Ababa (20-22 November 2012).
  • Provide inputs into the design this stocktaking workshop of relevant social learning and communication approaches, expertise and good practices within CCAFS and the CGIAR.
  • Work closely with CCAFS and its partners, as well as The Sandbox and the advisory group. Actively test and use the Sandbox as a mechanism to share ideas and lessons and solicit feedback and experiences relevant to the project.
  • Work closely with Alison Shaw (who is working on social differentiation approaches and a stocktake of those activities in the CG) to create synergies and avoid overlap
