The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Protocol Directorate office in conjunction with the Ethiopian Immigration Authority has issued visa regulations regarding obtaining visas at the airport. Nationals of the following countries are able to obtain a TOURIST visa on arrival at the airport (which costs USD 20.00)

As per these regulations a tourist visa is appropriate only if the purpose of entry is touristic. Visitors coming to Ethiopia to attend a meeting are considered to be on official duty and therefore recommended to obtain a business visa. Ways of obtaining a business visa for Ethiopia;
If origin of a traveler is a country where there is an Ethiopian Embassy or Consulate, the traveler is able to get a business visa prior to departure. This requires an invitation/ facilitation letter with a completed application for a business visa which must be submitted to the Ethiopian Embassy/consulate one week prior to travel; and
If origin of a traveler is a country where there is no Ethiopian Embassy or Consulate; the traveler should send a scanned passport copy (the page that shows photo, passport number and full name) to ILRI who will process the application with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and send you the visa reference document. You need to initiate this process at least one week ahead of your travel date;
