Introduction to the Climate Change and Social Learning work space


In late 2011, the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Theme on "Integration for Decision Making" issued a call for proposals for people and organizations to help develop a strategy on "communication and social learning in climate change, agriculture and food security". Following background work by Institute for Development Studies (IDS) and International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), a workshop on these topics was held in May 2012 to take this strategy forward. Out of that workshop, a Climate Change and Social Learning (CCSL) working group has emerged. The group is investigating how social learning approaches can improve institutional processes and effectiveness and lead to better development outcomes in the context of climate change.

This wiki is the space where the Climate Change and Social Learning (CCSL) working group shares information and knowledge. It contains information on how to use social learning the best possible way and understand the work better:
  • Defining social learning within the climate change context
  • Getting to know the sandbox, a space to share, learn and discuss social learning and development
  • Various elements of a strategy for the initiative: recent developments, major change areas identified and next steps.
  • A list of projects that have been started as part of this work
  • Resources that can practically help you: a framework and toolkit; a page listing CCSL publications, wider research, videos and related works on social learning; a glossary and list of acronyms
  • All events and conversations that have contributed to developing this CCSL body of work since the foundational workshop

Main organizations involved in the Climate Change and Social Learning initiative are individuals from the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and individuals from across a number of organisations and movements involved or interested in how social learning can positively impact climate adaptation and mitigation programs and activities, among many things.
